Deliverable Setups
There are numerous methods for establishing an automet® deliverable depending on the circumstances of the pipe spool(s) and the surrounding environment.
Certain conditions must be noted during the site survey by the user; these include:
- the location and presence of any items that may interfere with the replacement pipework and cannot be removed
- the location of any steelwork used for support
- the offset thickness and the number of boltholes for the tie-ins
- if the tie in is open (no blind or connecting flanges)
We will look at the following deliverable setups:
- Deliverable set up - in accordance with the grid system.
- Deliverable set up - in accordance with flange alignment.
- Deliverable set up - when there is a potential clash.
Deliverable set up - in accordance with the grid system
This is frequently used when there are only tie-ins and no existing pipe route, or when there are more than one or two spools.
The user may observe the surrounding elements, such as decks and bulkheads, to create a grid. The image below shows how these are set up using the survey analysis transform function.
The orientation of the pipe spool(s) within the surrounding environment becomes part of the deliverable with this option.
You can see the pipe spool shape, size and spool orientation, which can be difficult to understand.
This may not produce the most fabrication friendly deliverable.
This form of deliverable configuration is required when establishing a completely new route that may have to follow existing steelwork.
Deliverable set up - in accordance with flange alignment
This condition disregards the orientation of the pipe spool to the Grid. If the in-situ pipe spool orientation is incorrect in relation to the grid, this setup procedure will not confuse the required new fabrication dimensions with the grid misalignment.
The image below shows how these are set up using the survey analysis transform function.
This method offers some benefits:
- If the basic design dimensions are incorrect, the alignment fit preference will produce a more accurate outcome this will then allow the preliminary design file to be adjusted for better dimensions.
- The alignment of the pipe spool within the grid has no effect on the dimensional report of the pipe spool. The report simply shows the physical spool and not how the pipe spool lies within the surrounding structure.
- As a result, the deliverable will be easier to draw and build.
Deliverable set up - when there is a potential clash
A circle-fit must be performed when any object is close to the existing spool. The user can then route the new deliverable through the same line as the old spool. The user must note on the field-sheet during the survey that the circle-fit centre must be maintained when designing the deliverable.
The report below depicts the initial fit for a spool survey with a possible clash.
To begin, set all flanges' fit preferences to alignment, uncheck the circle-fit Fit option, and select zero flange 01.
Rotate the flanges with flange 01 as the origin until flange 02 has zero z.
This is the deliverable setup, go back to the main menu and print the text report.
With the text report, create the deliverable, taking care to maintain the same x location for the circle-fit.

What could have happened if the circle-fit check had not been performed is shown below.
