Automet® FAB - Control Capture Methods
The control observations can be measure in three different ways. All three methods can be used together.
Method 1: Start Capture

This method works effectively and quickly when the survey area is small and you do not have a set of control prism balls.
- Place and mark around each control magnet with a permanent marker pen so that they may be re-established later if necessary.
- Press the Start Capture button, move the prism ball to each magnet, and let the system record a control point measurement.
- Use a 44mm diameter prism ball.
- The control points do not have to be named, and the sequence of observation is irrelevant.

Method 2: Capture single point using a prism ball

This method works well in larger areas where the control points are further apart and you have a control prism ball for each magnet.
- Place and mark around each control magnet with a permanent marker pen so that they may be re-established later if necessary.
- Direct the instrument telescope towards each control prism ball and press the Capture Single button, make sure the Prism option is set. Each control point measurement will be recorded.
- The control points do not have to be named, and the sequence of observation is irrelevant.
Method 3: Capture single point using laser measurement to marked targets

This method involves laser measurement and sighting targets through the instrument telescope. This method is slower and less accurate than prism ball measurements but can be used when control magnets are not available.
- Place control targets around the area, these can be painted or stuck on the surrounding steelwork.
- Direct the instrument telescope towards each control target and carefully observe the target centre then press the Capture Single button, make sure the Laser option is set. Each control point measurement will be recorded.
- The control points do not have to be named, and the sequence of observation is irrelevant.
